In no small part due to Oklahoma’s stupid cheap land/home prices and Mrs. addiction’s and my good fortune of being able to obtain and hold onto very good jobs for the past 15 years, this will shortly be our new home. As a kid from a big family who came up wearing decade-old hand-me-downs and whose parents had to question every little purchase to determine whether we could really afford it, it’s all very surreal to me... I’m so thankful to be able to give this home & life to our kids (our dogs will be quite happy, too) and to share it with family & friends.
I think the longer commute and living with slow internet will be worth it.

Tornado shelter?

Congrats! Thats a helluva great looking lot. I’d get up on your roof soon though, that star look suspicious.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:19 |

Haha - soon.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:20 |

Thanks! Yeah, I’d better have that checked out...
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:22 |

Now the next question is if the track should go around the pond
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:22 |
|
Congratulations!
Better find a way to strap a cooler of beer to the tractor, though. That lot looks like
at least
a six-pack to cut.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:22 |

So, you’ve got a pool, and a pond, huh? I think the pond would be good for me.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:24 |
|
That’s some serious land! Congrats dude.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:24 |
|
Congrats! So, who’s in charge of mowing all that? :D
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:25 |
|
The pond is going to be great. It looks like the family that lives there now plays in it a lot, and if there aren’t already fish in it, there will be soon!
The pool is just gravy (and hopefully not a huge money pit in the long run).
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:26 |
|
Wow, that’s awesome. Congrats- sounds like you deserve it.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:26 |
|
I couldn’t resist the Caddyshack joke there. Seriously though, that looks like a really nice spot - - and from the picture, guessing it’s a relatively new (and roomy) home, too? Congratulations — that’s awesome!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:27 |
|
Thanks! I won’t mow all of it, maybe not even half - we’ll see. The deal we made included the current owner’s mower (48" zero turn). I’m sure I’ll be drinking many a beer while piloting that thing in the years to come.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:27 |
|
Wow, lots of room there for a future outbuilding with 3 car garage, shop, entertainment area and man cave. Well done!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:28 |
|
Dayum, that is fantastic! Congrats. Pond yours too? looks like it’s time for some recreational (non street legal) vehicles!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:29 |
|
You could probably lease most of your lot for horse or cattle grazing. Maybe even hay. Love the pond. Put some small mouth bass in there and have some fun.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:29 |
|
Oh, man, and I completely missed it...!
Thanks - it’s a very nice-sized home (we have 3 kids) and only 4 years old.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:29 |
|
Nice, that lot looks like it’s a lot bigger than a Marussia Wallet.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:29 |
|
Congrats!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:30 |

Congratz man! Always feel extra sweet when you earn it, by working for it. :)
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:31 |

Hold on to that land, we’re building the Oppo doomsday server farm in that big empty lot. Or not. I mean how does it work for underground construction projects? We can hire Bman for the job.
And then on top you can make a tarmac RC circuit replica of Montreal or Sebring or some other real-life track and a dirt RC track with mixed-surface hillclimb.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:31 |
|
Thanks! We’ve definitely worked hard and saved, but have also been very fortunate along the way. My office closed two years ago and the jobs left town and not everyone was able to find a spot to land like I was lucky to do.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:32 |
|
Thanks! I’ll mow some of it, but definitely not all!
My 10 year old will learn to help soon enough.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:32 |
|
Where we’re going, we don’t need mowers. And fuck lawn grass, turn it into a combo RC track and rave grounds.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:32 |

Thank you. It’s hard to believe.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:33 |

Sounds like a plan!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:34 |

I miss living on a decent amount of land. I grew up on 80 acres of family land, and the current half acre isn’t cutting it. Congrats!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:34 |
|
Thanks - it feels great, and it hasn’t completely sunk in yet.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:35 |
|
Thanks!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:35 |
|
Ha - it’s actually just big enough to store it.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:35 |
|
Ha - can’t blame you with the excitement! Looks like a perfect spot for kiddos and doggos—
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:36 |

With all this land, I assume you’ll be hosting the South Central Oppo meet? And congrats!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:37 |
|
We could own our own, but not lease out. Hay might be a possibility, if we go in with neighbors (and the owner of the 40 to the south) to have it all cut at once. If there aren’t already fish in there, there will be soon!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:38 |
|
Thanks! Yeah, the pond is ours. A 4-wheeler and an off-road go-kart are definitely in our future!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:39 |

Thanks! Definitely have future plans for a separate garage/shop.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:40 |

Haha - come on by! Thanks.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:40 |

It’s going to be great.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:42 |
|
Awesome! Congrats!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:43 |
|
Thanks! This is (just) 10, but more than enough for us. I grew up with woods behind my house that led down to a creek then out to huge fields and bigger creeks. Having that connection to nature for my kids was a big part of this decision.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:44 |
|
I don’t see any sheep
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:44 |

Thank you! And thanks for all your posts motivating me to get more serious about getting out and exploring with my kids on a regular basis.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:45 |

Haha - and I don’t think you will...
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:47 |

That is absolutely amazing!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:48 |

It really is... Thanks, $kay!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:49 |

Congrats! I’m still living at home (at 30, terrible, eh?) trying to find a full-time permanent job before I risk getting my own place. Kudos to mom for letting me stick around, but every extra penny I have goes to one of two things...saving up to import a FIAT 126, and saving up for a house of my own when the time comes.
My student loans are paid off, and I have enough saved for the FIAT now, but it’s another one of those things I would LOVE to get now, but won’t because I want my situation in job and living to be more stable before I pull the trigger...
Our property is only about 2 acres of heavily wooded land behind our house, so hard to explore it, but you’ve got a lot of space to enjoy there....congrats again! :)
Also, I think I see a garage? :P
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:51 |
|
What about the ones you lost?
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:54 |
|
Thanks! You’ll get there! Congrats on getting your loans paid off, and smart to be cautious about spending until you can truly afford it.
I grew up exploring in the woods behind my family’s home - glad my kids will have the land and pond to make their own.
It does have a long 2 car garage, with plenty of room for a future exterior garage/shop!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:56 |
|
Okay, now I’m lost.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:58 |
|
Congrats! That’s freaking awesome!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 11:59 |

Trying to play off your title. Lost sheep?
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:01 |
|
I’m very jealous. I would love to have a nice chunk of property. I’ve debated buying some up north, but that would require a 3 hour drive to utilize. I just want privacy. Neighbors are nice, but I want to be able to stroll naked out my back door if the mood hits.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:01 |
|
Okay, there it is! Could have gone with a coin, too, but sheep is clearly more appropriate here.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:04 |
|
On that note some 4-legged lawnmowers might actually not be a completely terrible idea.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:16 |

So, searching for a refuge just like you’re talking about, 2 or 3 hours away from our home, was actually what led us to the property we’re buying. My siblings and I (but really just me and my little brother) have been vocally, regularly dreaming about a place that we could all get together and enjoy time with each other, and out in nature. We were together for a family reunion this summer, and while looking for properties like that (in SE Missouri), I just happened to look back around where we live now and came across this property. It was so perfect that we had to go look at it, even thought we really weren’t planning to move for another year or two. The rest, as they say, is history...
My brother in Illinois also has a large property with a big home (and horses, etc.), so between his place and our new place, we have two great locations for big family get-togethers (my oldest brother’s family and now my parents live in Austin).
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:17 |

Thanks! I’m freaking out a little! =)
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:21 |

Haha - my friend and mortgage guy actually suggested goats!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:24 |
|
That’s pretty nice. How many acres do you have? The pond is a nice touch.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:25 |
|
I believe it.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:26 |
|
Fixed!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:27 |
|
10 acres - pond is about half an acre (when full).
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:28 |
|
This is a great thing you’re doing for your family, says a guy who grew up on several acres riding horses and growing things.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:30 |
|
Haha - yes!! Will be dirt rally stage, though, and will go around the pond.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:31 |
|
Really expected a dirt track in the shape of a dick, though...
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:31 |

Thanks for the kind words. It’s going to be a great change.

Congrats. Damn That’s huge. Very nice.
Adulting can be fun and rewarding.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:35 |

Thanks - it’s just crazy to think this will be ours in a month.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:36 |

Hahaha! I like the way you think!
A 4-wheeler and an off-road go-kart are definitely in our future.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:39 |

Thanks! Yay for garage space! :D
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:40 |

When the kids gripe about the extra chores and slow internet, don’t be discouraged. They will be grateful one day.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:50 |
|
They are super excited, and know that it will come with more work for everyone. I’m sure that won’t stop them from griping eventually, though - haha!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 12:55 |
|
Wooooooow
Looks great.
And without obstacles that 48" zero turn you mentioned in another comment should make pretty quick work of that giant yard. Keep those blades sharp and you’ll be done by the third beer.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 13:00 |
|
Can confirm, was a kid growing up on a 4-H farm with slow internet, regularly complaining about chores and such. That stuff gives you a better perspective/appreciation and can teach you some valuable lessons. Now I own (well, the bank does technically) my own home and I’m incredibly grateful to my parents.

Tried to find the pictures of my favorite ultimate garage I saw a few years ago. I think it was in Michigan or elsewhere in upper Midwest. There was a separate washbay and detail section with a wall to contain the wetness. It had a compressor room for isolating the noise. The main shop was 3 bays with a workshop section and the entire building was double depth. I think if you put 2 cars on the washbay side it held 6 total . There was a built in gas grille near the workbench section and seating and I can’t remember what lifts it had.. It was the best I’ve seen without being bigger than most peoples homes. The washbay was tiled which is how I found pictures while seaching for tiled garage floors. Somebody here may have a better memory than I do and can post pics of this one. Once again congrats on the house.

Congrats man!
Can I come over to go fishing?
![]() 07/21/2017 at 13:37 |

Mowing that is going to be a bitch and a half.

Thanks! Any time!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 14:03 |

Haha - I’ll definitely be mowing less than half of it...
![]() 07/21/2017 at 14:04 |

If not now, soon!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 14:05 |

Sounds about right to me!
![]() 07/21/2017 at 14:08 |

Yes! No question.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 14:10 |

What I ACTUALLY see is a great opportunity to build a little off road buggy course. Mini-Baja style cars. Plenty of room. Definitely what I would do.
My wife would probably hate it. Until I stuffed her into one of the buggies, then she’d love it once she was talked into participating.
![]() 07/21/2017 at 15:39 |

Get goats lol. Or any grass fed livestock in general, you have the space lol
![]() 07/21/2017 at 15:48 |

Yes! Exactly. It’s going to happen. =)
